Body Image - Support Group

Body image struggles are deeply personal—but unfortunately, very common. In a culture obsessed with appearance, it’s easy to believe your worth is tied to how you look. Healing your relationship with your body takes conscious effort, but it can open the door to greater mental, emotional, and physical freedom. It starts with challenging harmful messages and learning new, more compassionate ways of relating to yourself.

Recovery from body image issues is an opportunity to stop blaming our bodies—and start questioning the culture that taught us to distrust them.

This support group offers a compassionate space to connect with others who are actively working to build a better relationship with their bodies. Together, we’ll explore how diet culture impacts body image, eating habits, and self-worth. You’ll gain tools to reconnect with your body, rebuild trust, and begin a path toward healing—not through control, but through care and self-understanding.

Open to anyone struggling with body image issues.

NO DIAGNOSIS REQUIRED. NO COST TO ATTEND.

Binge Eating Support Group

(8 weeks)

Are you currently experiencing Binge Eating Disorder? This support group is for you.

There can be a lot of shame and guilt involved with binge eating. Feeling a sense of being “out of control” is common. Food may feel like an enemy. Not unlike a friendship, we are in a relationship with food... This group was developed to help you explore this relationship. Which behaviours bring you closer to and further away from how you want that relationship to feel? Learn about how binge eating creates short-term relief from uncomfortable emotional states. In this group, you will be supported in identifying the elements that trigger your binge eating behaviour. Tools will be provided to help you avoid bingeing and feel at peace with food. A life of food freedom is possible for you! This group will be a safe place for you to voice your experiences alongside others who understand.

Examples of topics that may be explored:

* Identifying binge triggers (situations, emotions, memories, body sensations and urges)

* Using mindfulness to become more present in the face of these feelings and behaviours

* How to process your emotions without turning to food for relief

* Building self-compassion in order to care for yourself and your emotions

The group will include a combination of skill-learning and group sharing.

Please note: This support group is not therapy and is not a substitute for treatment.

Binge Eating - Recovery Workshop

Binge eating is one of the most common eating disorders, yet many people who struggle with it don’t realize it is an eating disorder. After all, aren’t eating disorders just for “skinny” people? That harmful stereotype keeps too many people from getting the support they deserve.

For years, those experiencing binge eating—especially in larger bodies—have been steered toward weight loss programs. But focusing on dieting, food restriction, or intense exercise often makes things worse. These approaches can increase shame and disconnection from your body, rather than helping you understand and heal the root causes of your behavior.

This free, 2-hour workshop offers a compassionate space to explore the why behind your eating patterns—not just the what. You’ll learn about the emotional and psychological factors that drive binge eating, and discover supportive tools to begin breaking the cycle with care, not control.

This workshop is open to anyone struggling with binge eating disorder or binge eating behaviours.

No diagnosis required. No cost to attend.

Art Therapy for Eating Disorders

(6 weeks)

The Art of Healing

In this group, we’ll be using art to reflect upon and guide our healing journeys. Within the supportive environment of a group and with the guidance of a professional art therapist, we will create art each week using a variety of different materials, in response to a theme or prompt. It is important to know that we will be engaging with the art materials in a spontaneous, reflective and self-soothing manner, so no previous art experience or skill is required.

What to expect each session:

1. An art-based check-in to share visually or verbally how we are feeling

2. A brief introduction or description of the weekly prompt/directive

3. Creating art

4. Time to share and/or process our art

Don’t consider yourself an artist? No worries! This group requires no prior artistic experience or skill.

Supporting a Child with an Eating Disorder

Workshop for Parent & Loved Ones #2

Our first workshop focused on understanding an ED on a deeper level and touched upon the theory of what would be helpful in treatment. Parents who attended had many questions about the practical “how to” steps of chaperoning a child through treatment.

In this workshop, we shall take some time to attend to the practical parts of treatment, understanding the concept of “recovery” and what it looks like at the end of the road.

  • Anxiety, Panic Attacks and Co-regulation – What does “pacing with anxiety” look like?

  • The Meal Plan as a Tool in Recovery – The significance of the dietitian in treatment

  • What does sustainable recovery look like? How do we get there

This 3-hour workshop is designed to help parents understand these hidden dynamics, explore why certain strategies may not always seem effective, and provide the tools you need to support your child’s recovery. It’s also a chance for parents to share their challenges and ask questions about any aspect of treatment and recovery.

This group is intended for parents of children ages 10 - 30

"It was so valuable hearing other parents’ situations
and getting advice from facilitators."

Eating Disorder Recovery Workshop for Teens

(ONLINE)

This no-cost workshop is designed for teens (ages 12–17) who are exploring support options for eating disorder recovery. It will be facilitated by Sophie Balisky, a counselling psychology student who has successfully navigated her own eating disorder recovery journey. Sophie brings a unique and powerful perspective, sharing her story with honesty and vulnerability—helping to normalise the vulnerability that comes with recovery.

We often hear from teens in our recovery community how deeply important emotional validation is during this process. That’s why this workshop is grounded in empathy, compassion, and the belief that everyone deserves to feel seen and heard.

Over the course of 1.5 hours, we’ll explore some of the unhelpful thoughts that can hold recovery back—like the myth that you have to be “sick enough” to deserve support. We’ll also dive into bigger themes like practical tools for recovery, the value of mentorship, and how to nurture a sense of hope.

Eligibility:

• Ages of 12-17

• No Diagnosis Required

• Participants must be medically stable

• Parent/Caregiver and teen consent required

Please note: This group is intended to provide support to complement treatment and is not a substitute for it. Suicidal ideation and self-harm should be addressed with qualified clinicians. If you need help finding appropriate support, please book an appointment with our Recovery Navigator or contact the Distress Centre.

Support Group for
Adults with Eating Disorders

(6 weeks online)

“Making My Skills Work For Me” Group

It is a common complaint that we hear – clients leave programs with binders full of skills that are supposed to work in a time of need. However, most clients find that they cannot access the skills when they are most dysregulated and end up feeling it is a personal failure. The truth is that learning skills is not like learning social studies or mathematics. For skills to work, they have to be first understood and practiced before they can be implemented, especially when we are triggered and upset.

In this group we will bring up and discuss some of the popular and useful skills, take time to understand how they work and when they are most handy. We will also talk about the times you have tried to use a skill and explore why they have not worked in the past. Different skills work or different people and we will also explore how you can find the skills that work best for eachperson.

This 6-week, online support group offers individuals (18 years and older) an opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of their eating disorders and connect with others who share similar experiences.

This group will help participants to:

Explore the deeper emotional reasons why a person may develop an eating disorder

  • Provide a sense of hope and motivation in the recovery process

  • Gain a better understanding of how to reach sustained recovery

  • Teach practical coping skills

This group is open to all types of eating disorder-related concerns. It is our goal to focus on the underlying emotional issues that are common to all eating disorders. Everyone is welcome.

Please note: This support group is not therapy and is not a substitute for treatment.
